A native of Wilmington, Delaware and the eldest of twelve children, Maria was raised to be an achiever who valued a cozy nest. Maria went to NYC to pursue her dreams and attend Barnard College.The pulse of the city got into her blood and after graduation Maria found her dream job as style director for BRIDES at Conde Nast after working for many glossy magazines including Country Home, Fitness, In-Style, Working Mother, Family Circle and Sony Style.Maria is also the author six wedding and style books published by Harper Collins, Little Brown and Random House.Maria met and married her husband, Brett Mellinger, while in college. They raised two children in midtown Manhattan with a garden apartment that was always within walking distance from one of her offices. Her husband has a medical practice in Garden City.In 1997 they became North Fork weekenders when they bought a hundred-year old barn in Southold that proved the perfect retreat from the hustle of the city and not a far drive from Garden City.Maria and her husband made Southold their full-time home by 2015 as Maria transitioned from publishing to producing events and special projects between NYC and the East End. Notable clients include Sylvester Manor, The Retreat, Oysterponds Historical Society, Taste of the Village in Washington Square Park and Swarovski.Maria's life has perfectly groomed her for her new passion: real estate.
